Donlin Gold – Natural Gas Pipeline – Aquatics Study, Alaska

River and stream survey for a proposed 313-mile natural gas pipeline in southwest Alaska. From 2010 to 2012, RedFISH staff co-directed pre-season, sampling, and post-season activities for fish and stream habitat assessments throughout the project area. The project required over 800 site visits to more than 450 streams and rivers across the several basins including the South Fork Kuskokwim River, Windy Fork Kuskokwim River, Middle Fork Kuskokwim River, Kuskokwim River, Big River, Tatlawiksuk River, Jones River, and George River. RedFISH staff performed pre-season desk-top evaluation of potential sites, identified sampling sites based on specific criteria from a master potential sampling site list, conducted resident fish and juvenile salmon population surveys using electrofishing methods, conducted adult salmon aerial surveys, conducted salmon spawning habitat surveys, measured water quality parameters, measured stream channel characteristics, collected macroinvertebrate samples, managed geo-databases, recorded data electronically using Trimble® Yuma® computer tablets, managed equipment and sample inventories, quality assured/controlled deliverables, prepared weekly reports, prepared final annual reports.
